Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Signs Your Mr-Glass Window Installation Is Failing

• Sash drops or won’t stay open. The spiral or block-and-tackle balance has lost tension. In Lantana’s humidity, the lubricant inside the balance tube breaks down faster than inland installs. The fix is a matched pair replacement, never one side alone.
• Lock tongue misses the keeper or feels loose. The cam lock has worn or the keeper screw holes have stripped out of the vinyl jamb. We see this on 3000 Series units facing the Intracoastal, where daily thermal expansion works the screws loose.
• Visible gap at the meeting rail when closed. The interlock gasket has compressed or the sash is out of square. On impact-rated 8000 Series units, this also compromises the pressure rating and needs immediate correction before storm season.
• Condensation between panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed. Mr-Glass uses a warm-edge spacer, but Lantana’s salt air and UV exposure still push the typical IGU lifespan to 8-12 years, shorter than the 15-year factory estimate.
• Hard or gritty operation when sliding. The sash track is packed with debris, or the nylon glide shoes have worn to the metal insert. We clean the track and replace the shoes as a set; mixing old and new creates uneven drag that wears the balance prematurely.

DIY or Call Us?

There is no high-tension spring danger in a standard vinyl window, but there is a precise-fit problem. A balance ordered by rough length rather than exact tube diameter and shoe color will not seat correctly. We have seen homeowners force a 3/8-inch balance into a 1/2-inch jamb, cracking the vinyl track and converting a $200 repair into a $700 sash replacement.

What you can safely check: the etched mark in the glass corner for the manufacturing date, the shoe color and width, and whether the sash is square in the frame. Photograph these and text them to us. What goes wrong in DIY: ordering by window size instead of balance spec, mixing shoe colors left and right, or stripping the jamb screw holes with a power driver set too high.
